Mulled wine

Presentation
This invigorating drink, I would say almost comforting, very common in northern Italy and central Europe, thanks to its aromatic warmth and strong taste is truly fantastic when it's cold. The type of wine and the aromas to use vary from area to area, here I propose a rather widespread and balanced version that will warm your heart.
Ingredients:
- 1 liter of red wine
- 100g of sugar
- 1 star anise
- 4 cloves
- 5 juniper berries
- nutmeg to taste
- orange peel
- lemon peel
Preparation:

Prepare the wine, the spices and the sugar and 1 cut the peel of an orange and a lemon being careful to avoid cutting too much of the white part which would be too bitter. At this point 2 pour the sugar into a saucepan and 3 grate the nutmeg.

4 Then add the other spices and 5 the orange and lemon peels. 6 Finally add the red wine, mix well and put the saucepan on medium heat.

7 When the mulled wine is boiling briskly, flame it so as to eliminate most of the alcohol. 8 At this point, filter it with a sieve and 9 serve it piping hot.
Advise
- For a good result use a full-bodied red wine.
- The more you simmer the mulled wine, the more you will accentuate the aromatic note to the detriment of the alcohol content.
